For Business & Sport

In this podcast, I discuss with David Charlton from Sports Excellence the differences in commitment levels between leisure & performance athletes, how coaches can get the best out of their athletes, and how parents can best support talented children.

Key discussion points:

1. Understanding how to manage leisure & performance athletes of all ages.

2. Influencing the influencers to support a new culture.

3. Why it's important to spend time improving decision-making & self-evaluation.

4. How to improve your influencing, coaching, parenting, & managing skills.

5. Why it's not sufficient to measure the effectiveness of a training course or session on the day; success must be evaluated well after that time.

The Talent Equation

A Great Overview Snapshot

I make a return to the Talent Equation Conclave with Stuart Armstrong to explore some of the latest innovations in my Performance Development System (PDS) approach and to take some questions from the members of the group. In this conversation, I share -

1 - Some evolutions to the famous 'rule of 3' called the '3 A's'.
2 - How to enable athletes to learn to review rapidly in the moment.
3 - 12 (I think it was 12) of the many types of live reviews within PDS
4 - Why coaches should train for team and individual interaction.

This is a full-on, high-octane ride through the world of PDS. Buckle Up -

Keynote Delivery - Developing Performance Behaviours

This excerpt from a national keynote address delivered to senior national managers and coaches was also shared live online.

In this excerpt:

  • Are you and your team developing 'leisure' or 'performance' behaviours, & what is the real difference?

  • It's important to understand the significance of being focused during supervised time in order to develop people's effectiveness when unsupervised.

  • Ensuring people understand the value & the reasons behind it is crucial, as this is critical in performance behaviours.

What is Effective Communication?

Many people have misconceptions about this. This is an excerpt from one of my coaching clinics, which I deliver to businesses, educational institutions, and sports teams.

A small change in understanding can resolve numerous team and organizational issues. This topic also sparks lively discussions during my keynote presentations.

PDS Need Centred Principles Being Lived Within The Players

Here are some authentic examples showcasing the PDS needs-centered principles in action among the players & coaches in UK & South Africa. These recordings are unscripted & were taken from real coaching sessions.

These behaviours and skills were honed at Evo Soccer and Evo Rugby during one of my team interventions, which included training days, WhatsApp communication, and coach mentoring support over a period of 6 months. This ensures that new learning becomes ingrained in the culture.

What is "The Lighthouse"?

This interview was recorded by Swedish National Sports following my keynote at their annual performance coaching conference. The advice I share here is ideal for business, sports, and education managers and coaches who are committed to maximizing their performance potential. In this short interview, I share:

  • - What "The Lighthouse" is

  • - What hot and cold reviews are, and how they can support growth in accurate self-awareness

  • - The importance of accuracy when reviewing choices and actions

  • - Tips for developing your own performance.

Impacting Engagement & Performance in Schools

Here is a conversation between Alan Keane & me discussing a PDS intervention at a secondary school in London.

The conversations were recorded during the intervention. We discussed the changes within the teachers, the challenges, & the reasons why the PDS needs-centered approach has significant benefits for both teachers and students.

What is Need Centred Coaching?

In this interview, Lason Perkins from Basketball Embassy's virtual coach’s clinic interviews Mark Bennett MBE, the creator of Performance Development Systems (PDS), & Great Britain basketball coach Alan Keane about "Needs-Centered" coaching. They discuss what "Needs-Centered" coaching is, developing self-thinking players, why effective coach mentoring support is critical for athlete development, why this approach is suitable for both grassroots & performance environments, the process of shifting both coach & athlete behaviours, and much more!
